Sample Kits And Quality Checks Before A Container Order
A small, well-chosen sample kit removes most of the risk from a first container. Here is what to ask for, what to test and what to reconcile when the shipment arrives.
- Representative colour panels
- Lock-fit and flatness test
- Document review
- Arrival reconciliation
What a useful sample kit contains
Ask for the production panel in the colours you intend to order, at least one line-marking panel, an edge ramp and a corner piece. A kit built from the actual mould and the current batch tells you far more than a generic swatch. Include the intended sport and climate in the request so the sample matches the specification.
Checks to run on arrival
Lock several panels together on a flat surface and check the seams for consistent height, verify that the locks engage without forcing, and look at colour consistency in daylight. Pour a little water through the perforations to see how quickly it clears. See the installation guide and drainage guide.
Review the paperwork with the sample
Request the same documents that will accompany the container: commercial invoice format, packing list structure, certificate of origin and the material test reports on file. Approving the sample and the documents together prevents a mismatch at customs. See the tender specification guide and shipping terms guide.
Reconcile the full container
On arrival, count pallets by colour and panel type against the packing list, compare a random panel with the approved sample and photograph any damage before unloading. Keep the approved sample as the reference for future reorders and spare tiles. See container loading notes and the distributor programme.

Frequently asked questions
What should be in a sample kit?
Production panels in the intended colours, a line-marking panel, an edge ramp and a corner piece from the current batch.
How do we check the locking fit?
Lock several panels on a flat surface and confirm that seams sit level, the locks engage without forcing and the panels separate cleanly.
Can we place a trial order before a full container?
Yes. Distributors commonly begin with a sample kit or an LCL trial order before committing to a full container.
What should we do if a pallet arrives damaged?
Photograph the damage before unloading, note it on the delivery record and reconcile the count by colour and panel type against the packing list.
