Sports Flooring Buyers Checklist
Before you issue a tender or confirm a container, run through these ten points. They separate a surface that stays in service for years from one that becomes a maintenance problem.
- 10-point pre-order list
- Avoid common rework
- Align documents early
- Plan spares and warranty
1. Material and certificates
Specify 100% virgin polypropylene rather than an unspecified mix, ask for UV stabilisation for outdoor use, and request current third-party test reports (SGS on file, RoHS / REACH). A clear material declaration also simplifies recycling and end-of-life planning. See PP vs PVC and recycling and compliance.
2. Base, drainage and lines
Confirm the slab is sound, level and free of standing water, and that the surface has a fall so rain clears. Perforated tiles drain through the joints, but they do not fix a failed base. Agree the court dimensions, sports and colour scheme, and whether permanent line panels or painted lines are expected. See drainage guide and subbase guide.
3. Samples and documents
Order a sample kit built from the current production batch - production panels in your colours, a line panel, an edge ramp and a corner piece - and approve it together with the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and test reports. Approving sample and paperwork together prevents a customs mismatch. See sample kit and QC.
4. Logistics, spares and warranty
Agree the incoterm (FOB, CIF or DDP), keep a spare-tile allowance from the original batch for colour consistency, and confirm the warranty scope and lead time. Landlocked markets should build the rail or road corridor into the same offer. See incoterms and shipping.

Frequently asked questions
What is the first thing to check?
The material declaration and current test reports, then the condition of the existing base and its drainage fall.
Why approve the sample with the documents?
Approving the sample panel and the shipping documents together prevents a colour or paperwork mismatch at customs.
How many spare tiles should we keep?
Keep an allowance from the original batch; it preserves colour consistency for later single-tile replacement.
Which incoterm is simplest for a school?
DDP suits buyers without an import department because the supplier coordinates clearance and delivery.
