How To Choose Sports Flooring
The right surface depends on the sports, the base you already have and how the space will be used. This guide walks through the decisions in order.
- Match surface to sport
- Indoor vs outdoor
- Ask the right questions
- Plan base and drainage
Start with the sport and the load
A futsal or basketball court, a multi-use games area and a gym weigh the surface differently. High-pivot sports want consistent traction and ball rebound; a gym wants cushioning under foot. Pick the panel profile to the heaviest use the space will actually see, not the marketing photo. See futsal tiles and gym flooring.
Indoor or outdoor decides the spec
Outdoor panels need UV stabilisation to resist fading and must hold their dimensions through summer heat and winter cold; indoor halls avoid solar load but still see temperature swings. Outdoor courts also need perforations and a draining base. See indoor vs outdoor.
Base, drainage and safety
Most trips happen at the perimeter, so include edge ramps in the quantity schedule. Confirm the slab is level and dry, give outdoor courts a fall, and ask for a declared shock-absorption test method plus a sample panel for on-site evaluation. See edge ramp guide and shock absorption and safety.
Questions to ask any supplier
Ask for the material declaration, current test reports, the warranty scope, the exact panel quantity for your dimensions, colour consistency across batches and whether single tiles can be replaced later. Suppliers who answer plainly are the ones worth the container. See buyers checklist.
